Sun/Earth is a projection installation that reframes our experience of home and place against a cosmological scale. Animated poetic text and optical illusions are revealed by viewing the installation through blue and red viewing lenses, and the accompanying soundtrack invite contemplation on our relationship with the Sun. Pausing on our dependant relationship with the Sun shifts our understanding of place from human scale (parks, suburbs, cities) to a cosmological scale (Planet Earth, Solar System, Milky Way Galaxy, infinite Universe). As you view the projection through each of the coloured lenses - they create an optical illusion to make different parts of it visible, whilst concealing others. This effect is achieved by exploiting the properties of light, and the way our eyes perceive colour. The accompanying soundtrack layers live recorded drumbeats, in time with a human heart beat - in a sound composition evoking our march through space and time.
